Call to Action - Contact Your Representative Today!
OAAPN has been hard at work for the last 2 years negotiating and drafting full practice legislation which will modernize APRN practice for introduction by summer 2015. Though the process has moved slowly, we now have activity and your voice is needed.
We are happy to announce that we drafted a bill and Representative Dorothy Pelanda (R) is the HOUSE Sponsor. The NEXT STEP in the process is the sponsor’s call for House CO-SPONSORS.
We only have FOUR days left – Until May 14!
We need ALL OAAPN MEMBERS (and non-members and students) to promote CO-SPONSORSHIP among the members of our House of Representatives. You can help do this by following these quick steps:
1) Go to www.ohiohouse.gov, navigate to the Member Search box in the left lower corner and enter your zip code to find your REPRESENTATIVE (you may need your zip+4)—NOTE: DO NOT CONTACT YOUR SENATOR REGARDING THIS REQUEST; CONTACT YOUR HOUSE REPRESENTATIVE only;
2) Click on your REPRESENTATIVE to go to his or her home page;
3) Go to the lower right section of the home page. You will find contact information there; specifically, a PHONE NUMBER.
When you CALL your representative, it is most likely that you will speak to a legislative aide—THIS IS A GOOD THING! Your job at this point is to calmly and respectfully leave your message. A sample script follows:
“Hello, my name is _____ and I am a constituent of Representative _____ . Thank you for taking my call.
I am calling to request that Representative ______ sign on as a CO-SPONSOR of the upcoming bill that would modernize the Nurse Practice Act for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses. Representative Dorthy Pelanda is the sponsor.
This bill when introduced and ultimately passed will make health care more accessible and affordable to Ohioans while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.”
Leave your name and contact information.
That’s It! YOU CAN MAKE AN IMPACT. Call right now and be a part of APRN History!
